Zoo Trip Part 1 - Africa

We took a trip to the NC Zoo in Ashboro on Thursday, April 9, 2009. Our family went with Matt's uncle, Jon, and his children Kyle and Faith Ashley. It was an absolutely beautiful day, sunny with no clouds and about 70 degrees. We arrived at the zoo at about 10:30am and the children were having so much fun that we did not leave until about 4:30pm. When we left everyone was exhausted, but we could not have asked for a better trip. We prayed Thursday morning at breakfast before we left that God would cause the animals to be out and active so that we could see them all and He honored our requests. All of the animals were out and very active (the only exception being the lions who were taking their mid-morning nap apparently).

If you haven't been to the NC Zoo before, the park is broken up into two sections: an Africa section featuring animals that you would see in Africa and a North American section featuring animals that you would see in North America. Animals in the Africa part of the park included Giraffes, Zebras, Lions, Elephants, Rhinos, and various Monkeys. Animals in the North America part of the park included Alligators, Polar Bears, Grizzley Bears, Bison, and Wolves.

Some of our favorite exhibits were the Giraffes, who were out and so close you felt like you could touch them, the Elephants, and the Polar Bear who was being very active while we were there, swimming and playing with various balls and barrells. (And of course Matt enjoyed seeing the wolves - imagine that.) Here are some pictures from the African section of the Zoo.
