Maddie’s Mini Recital

Okay, so I failed miserably at the 7 Blogs in 7 Days Challenge! I made it through 4 days in a row and then I just couldn’t keep up the momentum. Hopefully you all won’t mock me too much. I have already received one phone call pointing out my failure so let’s just keep it at that!

March 2009 064

This morning we all got to go to Maddie’s dance class and see a little mini recital. Really the children were just getting the opportunity to show off what they have learned and also practice dancing with an audience watching them.

March 2009 086

They have a full recital on May 30th. They are going to be dancing to a Brady Bunch song and they will all have bell-bottoms on as part of their costumes. Hope you enjoy the pictures and the videos!

7 Blogs in 7 Days Challenge: Day 4

Matt gave Davis a Haircut

I know that the Jonas Brothers are getting the attention of all the young girls these days but I really dislike their hair.  Who knows, maybe if Davis could talk he might say, “Dad I really want all the young girls to like me, so I need to have big, wavy/curly hair just like the Jonas Brothers.”  But Davis certainly can’t articulate that.  And since Davis can’t articulate what kind of hairstyle he has, its up to us, his parents, to determine that for him.  Saturday night I decided that the boy’s hair was getting too long and that he was beginning to resemble one of the Jonas Brothers too much.  Then after a little convincing and a little compromise (I wanted to use the clippers with a two guard like I use, Amy didn’t want his hair that short) Amy agreed to let me cut his hair.  So I got out the clippers and went to work.  Here are the results (try to ignore the runny nose):

March 2009 028  March 2009 029 Overall the haircut process went pretty well.  Davis freaked out a little just because he wasn’t sure what was going on, but overall he sat pretty still and didn’t cry much at all.  The curls are gone and there are still two full ears on his head, so I would say the first hair cut from dad was a success.  The summer is coming though so we may have to move that clipper guard down from a four to a two.  What do you think?

7 Blogs in 7 Days Challenge: Day 3

We decided to name our blog “Morgan Moments” because we thought it was a catchy title and we also thought it communicated what we wanted to do with our blog, which is keep you updated with things that are going on in our lives. And I was thinking earlier today that a lot of our blog material in the future is probably going to be about things that happen around meals. Our meal times are very rarely uneventful. Whether its an interesting topic of discussion brought up by Maddie or Davis doing something silly, meal times are always full of excitement. That being said I’d like to introduce a new theme we will probably use occasionally in our blog that you can probably look for or read about in the future - “Meal Time Moments!”

A Meal Time Moment with Davis

It’s never unusual for Davis to start doing silly things at a meal. Sometimes he does silly things with his plates, bowls, cups, or utensils. Sometimes he does silly things with his food. And sometimes he just makes silly noises and silly faces. Curious about what those silly noises and faces look like? Here’s one his favorites:

7 Blogs in 7 Days Challenge: Day 2

Thursday Morning Trip to Chuck E. Cheese

Our family has discovered a great time for Chuck E. Cheese outings – Thursday mornings from 10am until 1pm.  (I write that like we go all the time, when in reality we have probably only been to Chuck E. Cheese four times in the last 18 months).  The two times that we have been to Chuck E. Cheese on Thursday mornings we have almost had the entire place to ourselves.  The kids love the freedom of being able to interact with whatever game or ride they want, and there is a much smaller chance of injury for the other guests.  I say that because Maddie and Davis may possibly be the most dangerous skee ballers ever!  Seriously!  Maddie tries to roll the ball but the motion is more of a side arm sling, and if she lets go too early you really don’t want to be standing at the lane next to her.  We could never let her play this game if there is a small child within about a 15 foot radius because Maddie could knock the kid senseless.  Davis on the other hand prefers the over-hand baseball throw, which never makes it all the way up but sure does make a ton of noise.

On this particular trip Davis wanted to play all the games with balls.  (Imagine that!)  He enjoyed cheating in skee ball by walking all the way up the ramp and then baseball throwing it at the holes.  He also enjoyed sitting in the basketball game while others played the basketball game.  He liked catching the balls as they rolled back to whomever was playing.  Maddie on the other hand was particularly fascinated by a virtual roller coaster ride.  It was a great bargain as two people got to ride for just one token.  She rode it over and over and over.  Of course at 12:00 we had some pizza and watched Chuck E. Cheese and his band perform.  Afterwards we cashed in our tickets for a plastic spider, some stickers, and one or two other valuable prizes.  Then it was home for a nap!

7 Blogs in 7 Days Challenge: Day 1

Well, we did well to create a blog but as you all have noticed we haven’t updated it once. So I have decided to challenge myself. 7 new blogs in 7 days. (I know it seems pretty lofty since we haven’t updated the blog once in probably three weeks but there’s no reason to set the bar low.) So here we go!

A Little Snow and A Little Fun!

On Sunday night, March 1st (at least I think that is right) our particular part of Raleigh got about 2” of snow. It was just enough snow to cover everything outside and to make for a beautiful morning, but not really enough snow or the kind of snow to have much fun in. But that didn’t stop us from trying. When we told Maddie on Sunday afternoon that it might snow that night she asked if we could make a snowman. I figured that we probably wouldn’t have any other chances this year to make a snowman so I told her that if it snowed we would try. She was very excited! So when she woke up Monday morning and saw the snow she knew it was just a matter of time before we went out to play in it. Providence was on a two hour delay that morning, so right after breakfast we got dressed and headed outside to the grassy area behind the apartment. (Unfortunately Davis was still battling a cold with cough and runny nose so he was unable to participate in any of the outside play but he made sure to watch from the window.) Maddie had read some books about snowmen, so she knew what we needed: buttons for eyes, a big carrot nose, and sticks for the arms. Unfortunately all we had were the sticks for the arms, so we had to get creative with the other necessities. We did not have a big carrot but we did have a bag of the small baby carrots so the nose was going to have to be a lot smaller. We had recently purchased a box of Girl Scout Thin Mint Cookies so we decided to use two of those for eyes. And we took out a can of raisins to make a mouth. After we had collected the parts it was up to me to make the snowman. The snow absolutely refused to stick to itself so after about 5 minutes of intense trying Maddie started to ask questions about my progress. At that point I only had a small sized snow ball formed. After another 5 minutes Maddie was getting cold and growing increasingly impatient. (Don’t misunderstand, she was having fun running in the snow and throwing snow, but she was ready to assemble the snowman.) I delayed her as long as I could, but eventually I had to give and do the best with what we had. It was nothing to get excited about, but it was a snow man and Maddie was happy. Here are the final results:

Maddie was happy, so the rest of us were all happy and satisfied as well. Unfortunately the snowman’s head fell over about 10 minutes after we went inside and we think the Thin Mint eyes and raisin mouth were quickly consumed by a neighbor’s dog. Oh well – there’s always next winter!
